Front row seat! Experience the Freedom Day Regatta from Fort St. Angelo this March
This Freedom Day, Monday 31st March, Heritage Malta invites you to witness one of Malta’s most thrilling traditions, the Regatta, from the breathtaking vantage point of Fort St. Angelo in the Grand Harbour.
A deeply rooted Maltese tradition, the Regatta showcases the maritime skill and competitive spirit of rowing teams from across Malta, all vying for the prestigious ‘Palju’. The event consists of 11 races, featuring four different types of rowing boats, making it a true test of endurance and teamwork.
For this special occasion, Fort St. Angelo will be open at a reduced admission fee, offering visitors the ultimate front-row seat to the action on the water below.
Beyond the excitement of the Regatta, visitors can also explore the historic Magistral Palace, located in the upper reaches of the fort. Once the first official residence of the Grand Masters of the Order of St. John (1530–1558), this medieval landmark offers a rare glimpse into Malta’s storied past.
Adding to the day’s festivities, there will be engaging activities for all ages. From 10am to 11.30am, young visitors can take part in a creative art activity at Egmont Hall, while In Guardia re-enactors will bring Malta’s Hospitaller era to life with entertaining displays throughout the fort.
Celebrate a day of history, heritage, and high-energy competition at one of Malta’s most iconic sites! Tickets are just €3 for all ages and free for Heritage Malta Members.
Get yours online here, at any Heritage Malta museum or site, or at the fort’s entrance. Last admission is at 6.30pm.
