From peril to safety! Dora, the loggerhead turtle saved from marine debris near Paradise Bay
When Dora was spotted, she was in visible distress!

Lyndsey Grima

This weekend, a loggerhead turtle named Dora was rescued in an operation near Paradise Bay. While enjoying a day out on their boat, Dorianne and Ralph Mifsud spotted the turtle in visible distress; entangled in plastic debris and a wooden stick with a fishing line protruding from both her mouth and cloaca indicating ingestion.

Understanding the urgency, the two heroes acted swiftly. They gently approached Dora, brought her safely aboard, and immediately contacted Wildlife Rescue Team Malta. With the help of another caring individual, Dora was quickly transported to shore, where volunteers from Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park and Wildlife Rehab Centre took over.

Dora is now under expert care at the rehab centre, receiving the attention she needs to recover. Her story is a reminder of how plastic pollution and marine litter can endanger local wildlife...and how human kindness and quick action can make a life-saving difference!

This rescue highlights the urgent need to keep our seas clean and dispose of waste responsibly.

Let’s protect our marine life...together!
