From books to life! Maltese sculptor Indri Attard immortalises Trevor Zahra’s ‘Kuncett u Marinton’
Trevor Zahra created Kuncett and Marinton back when he was still a secondary student himself!
The local sculptor Indri Attard has become known for his works, many of which feature religious scenes and busts of Maltese personalities. His latest work, however, has brought to life the two beloved characters ‘Kuncett’ and ‘Marinton’ from Trevor Zahra’s children’s books, after the author had expressed the wish to see them in the form of a sculpture.
Trevor Zahra is the best-selling Maltese author in history, having published over 120 books in the Maltese language since 1971. His novels and poetry have won him several literary awards throughout his career, including Malta's national literary prize for a record 15 times. In 2020, he was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature for his undeniably prolific career.
The characters Kuncett and Marinton are two elderly women who get up to their own little adventures, whose short stories Trevor Zahra largely wrote when he was still a secondary school student himself! Clearly, his works are still an inspiration to readers and artists alike today.
