The 2024 edition of the MICHELIN Guide for Malta is set to be announced on Thursday 4th April.

The guide, which highlights the outstanding restaurants, cuisine styles, and culinary skills found in different corners of Malta, Gozo, and Comino, first arrived in the country in 2020. Internationally, it has served as a benchmark of international food for over 120 years, recognising some of the most notable cuisines in the world.

Contacted by this newsroom, a spokesperson for the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) confirmed that 2024’s edition of the guide will be released on Thursday at around 11.30am and noon. The spokesperson said that the MTA is not aware of how many establishments will be included in this year’s guide.

Last year, the guide featured 35 restaurants, six of which were awarded one MICHELIN Star and four were awarded a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand. The remaining 25 restaurants formed part of the MICHELIN guide.

Restaurants that received a MICHELIN Star are those classed with offering what the MICHELIN Guide describes as “outstanding cooking.” It takes into account the quality of ingredients, harmony of flavours, master of techniques, personality of the chef as expressed through their cuisine, and also the consistency across the menu and over time.

Fernandõ Gastrotheque (Sliema), Under Grain (Valletta), Noni (Valletta), ION – The Harbour (Valletta), De Mondion (Mdina), and Bahia (Balzan) were the local recipients of the prestigious award last year.

On the other hand, the MICHELIN Bib Gourmand is not quite as high a ranking as a star, but it is still a particularly prestigious achievement. It recognises restaurants that serve good food at moderate prices.

The restaurants that received this award last year were Grain Street (Valletta), Terrone (Birgu), Rubino (Valletta), and Commando (Mellieħa).
