First rainfall of the month! Tomorrow brings Malta & Gozo isolated rain and Force 6 winds
The first weekend of March is expected to be characterised by grey clouds.

Francesca Vella

After the moody weather of late January and most of February, Malta has spent the past week basking in some well-deserved sun. But as the Nelly Furtado song goes, all good things come to an end, and tomorrow (Friday 6th March) will bring the first rainfall of March.

The rain should be isolated and light, but it’ll be coupled with some hefty winds, reaching a maximum of Force 6 till midday, and calming slightly in the evening. This will leave some rough seas for ferry passengers to contend with, so while the Gozo Channel (operating to and from Ċirkewwa) should remain unaffected, the fast ferry operating from Valletta might be suspended for some time – or if functional, maybe not ideal for those who get seasick!

The Force 5 winds and the accompanying clouds will remain throughout the weekend into next week, finally calming to Force 2-3 on Tuesday 10th March. The sun should make a more significant appearance on Wednesday 11th March too, so if the weather over the weekend gets you down, keep in mind there is some (sun)light at the end of the tunnel!

Hoping for bluer skies in the near future?

5th March 2026
