Everything but the kitchen sink? What to pack for an amazing summer holiday in Malta
“Should I pack in a pair of boots, just in case?” I hear you ask yourself as you scratch your head in front of an open suitcase and way too many things to fit inside it. Truth be told, you won’t use the half of it, because you won’t need it. Travel light and comfortable with the essentials you’ll need for a summer holiday in Malta.
Let those toes breathe
Let’s face it. You won’t bear to wear any other types of shoes but flip flops or sandals. Even canvas shoes feel too hot.

Keep it short
Again in the name of natural ventilation, let those legs out with shorts and skirts. Enjoy minimal amounts of fabric such as halter neck tops, crop tops, boob tubes and vests.

Stay Natural
You want your skin to breathe? Then forget all synthetic materials and opt for natural fibres such as cotton and hemp. Sticky isn’t sexy.

Be a beach babe
You’ll be wearing your bikini or trunks several hours every day, so pick one you love. Be bold: no design is too unusual, no colour too bright, no coverage too little.

Be prepared
While it's best to go minimal during the day, do have spare layers to counter those evening seaside breezes.

See sweet
Keep the glare out and protect your eyes with a good pair of sunglasses. Note that Malta’s white stone is bright and shiny in the sunlight.

Take cover
Whatever you want to tell yourself, you need a hat. Especially if your soft white facial skin has not seen the sun in months.

Protect and care
You don’t need to apply thick white slops of sunblock on your face thanks to the hat and sunglasses, but you still need sunscreen.

Escape the mozzies
It’s a hot and humid country, what do you expect? Mosquitoes won’t be a nuisance if you use repellent and cover your arms and legs during sunrise and sunset.

Capture the moments
There are plenty of amazing sights to visit and experiences to be had...and you’ll need a memento to remember them all. Make sure you have sufficient memory on your phone for pictures and videos.

Bring a book
Even if you're spending your days lying down on a deckchair, at least you can say you’ve read a book. That’s why you need to pack a good one.

What NOT to pack (because they’ll be utterly useless)
Synthetics
No matter how beautiful that chiffon or nylon dress is, believe me: it will stick to your slick of sweat if you dare to wear it in summer in Malta. Yuck.

Boots
It won’t rain in Malta and you won’t want to go trekking either (it’s too hot unless you go at 5am). And it’s too warm for ANY closed shoes. Just forget the boots.

That about sums up the most important Malta summer packing rules. Pack happy and enjoy your holiday!
