For the month of February, the Malta Historical Society is collaborating with the Siġġiewi Local Council to present a series of talks exploring the village’s history within the wider Maltese context. The first lecture, Bombs, Farming and the Black Market: Siġġiewi During the War, will be delivered by historian James Baldacchino on 5 February at 7.00pm at the Siġġiewi Civic Centre.
Focusing on the Second World War, the talk will examine how direct bombing, food shortages, agriculture, and the rise of the black market shaped everyday life in this largely farming community, as well as the experiences of the many refugees who sought shelter there.
