The Military Mtarfa is a historical commemoration organised by the Mtarfa Local Council, dedicated to showcasing the area’s significant military heritage, particularly during the British period and the Second World War. Taking place on Sunday 17th May from 9:30am to 5:00pm, the event begins with a visit to the Mtarfa Military Cemetery, where a wreath-laying ceremony honours the 238 Commonwealth soldiers buried there, followed by a Scout Group salute and a convoy of historic military vehicles. The programme continues at the main venue with re-enactments of military drills, immersive displays such as a soldiers’ field camp, a Victory Kitchen, and wartime life scenes, as well as interactive demonstrations of historical weapons. Visitors can also explore World War I and II memorabilia, including uniforms, radio equipment, and artefacts, alongside traditional Maltese games and a food court, creating an engaging and educational experience for all ages.
