Heritage Malta is celebrating the Autumn Equinox, with guided tours at Mnajdra on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of September. The beginning of autumn, is marked by the alignment of the southern megalithic structure of Mnajdra with the rising of the sun. This is one of the astronomical phenomena that can be observed at Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park. This link might indicate a pre-existing knowledge of celestial movement. In the absence of official celandars, it was crucial for prehistoric agricultural societies to observe the movements of the stars, sun, and moon to mark the changing of the seasons, which was vital for the planting and harvesting of crops. Complimentary coffee and snacks will be offered to participants after the tour.
