One of Mosta's best-loved hidden foodie gems is preparing to serve its final customers, with San Remo set to close at the end of August.

San Remo has built a loyal following over the years for signature dishes including traditional rabbit, octopus, hearty meat dishes and its massive seafood platters, as well as free appetisers.

People have until the end of August to enjoy it one last time, after which Chef Patron Chris Borg will turn his focus to a new takeaway venture right opposite San Remo.

Chef Borg said the decision to close down San Remo was one of the hardest he has had to take in his career.

“Over the years, San Remo has become so much more than just a snack bar—it has truly become my second home,” he said.

“The renovations, the reputation we've built for quality food and friendly service, and the awards and certifications we've proudly received have all been possible because of the passion, hard work, and dedication of my team and me.”

However, he said the restaurant – like many businesses – faced challenges related to rising costs and staffing, and he wasn’t ready to compromise on quality.

Chef Borg’s new venture, Jimren, will be a modern Maltese gourmet take-away promising authentic local flavours with a creative twist.

It will open with a limited menu during the upcoming Feast of Santa Marija, giving people a taste of what to come.
