Emerging straight from the success of the local launch of the Bus Reborn concept, the team behind the critically acclaimed proposal to redesign the public transport system have gone and secured themselves another massive achievement – all within the span of a fortnight!
Mizzi Studios have been listed alongside some of the world’s architectural greats – Zaha Hadid, Le Corbusier, Jürgen Mayer, Peter Cook and Colin Fournier - as the creators behind some of Europe’s greatest modern architecture.
The project in question is a little café situated in Hyde Park, London. According to The Guardian, the newspaper which published the list, the Serpentine Coffee House is a small but rather lovely new café.
It continues that "it has a brass roof that’s designed to look like a stingray. The undulating shape creates the impression of a smiling mouth. From a distance, it looks like a Japanese pagoda. Inside, the theme continues: the underside of the roof is ridged to give the impression that you are inside the mouth of a sea creature. If that sounds creepy, it’s not. It’s light and airy and a great place to enjoy coffee, artisan ice cream and other tasty treats,” the article reads.
In an Instagram post, the team explains the motivation behind the design: "The sculptural café takes inspiration from the vernacular of the Japanese tea house and is defined by its undulating canopy that echoes a stingray’s flight through water."While its brass reptilian style underbelly is a jaw-dropping experience, the aim is for it to provide "a haven to pause and appreciate nature in the city."
Looks like there’s no stopping this team of creatives!
