“We would like to thank Extinction Rebellion Malta for donating eight saplings to the Central Link Project. These trees will be added to the 579 trees that we are planting in this area as part of the project. With the addition of these eight saplings, once this project is ready, this area of Birkirkara, Balzan and Attard will now have 333 more tress than there are today," they say in a Facebook post.

“Last year, we planted 8,719 trees in different localities in Malta. This year we already planted over 1,000 new trees in several other locations and many more will be added throughout the year.” Sounds like they’re taking steps in the right direction.

“Unfortunately, the saplings donated last night were not watered and planted properly and were too fragile to survive in such an unsheltered environment. To ensure they survive, our arborists carefully removed them from the material in which they were in and placed them in water so that they can be adequately grown in a nursery. We will continue taking care of them until they are ready to be transplanted in an appropriate environment, in the same project area.”

You can donate too!

If you would like to donate indigenous saplings to our ongoing tree planting programme, or if you know of public spaces where we can plant more trees, comment below or email us on [email protected].
