If you were planning on cleaning the windows in your house today, think again as desert sand rain is expected to hit the Maltese islands for the rest of the week.

“Over recent days, the Maltese Islands have been surrounded by airborne fine desert sand. This will persist till at least the weekend”, the weather station ‘Maltese Islands Weather’ reported.

In fact, today, isolated showers are expected. As the rain falls it will deposit fine desert sand, more commonly known and locally referred to as xita tal-hamri.

This will in turn cover many outdoor surfaces in Malta with the Saharan sand!

Even though rain is expected throughout the day, “the sun may shine through the haze at points”, ‘Maltese Islands Weather’ continued.
