The façade is five stories high.
The Ministry for Public Works and Planning has just announced its plans to fully restore the façade of the Collegiate of St Paul’s Domus Curialis in Valletta.
The works on the building, which is found right next to the Collegiate Matrix Parish Church of St Paul, will commence in the upcoming days and are set to be completely finished by the end of this year.
The restoration works will include a complete cleaning of the façade, which spans a whopping five floors, and repairs to its run-down wooden and metal balconies.
Throughout its history, the Domus Curialis hosted a variety of social and religious functions.
Although, the building’s façade was officially designed by renowned architect Nikola Zammit around 140 years ago, the church’s origins trace back to the 1570s.
The original church was designed by none other than Girolamo Cassar.
Inside the church, one can find an impressive altarpiece sculpted by Matteo Perez d'Aleccio. One can also come across paintings by Attilio Palombi and Giuseppe Calì.
