Planning a trip to Comino? Blue Lagoon access will require online booking from Thursday 1st May
New rules starting this week!

If Comino’s iconic Blue Lagoon is on your summer to-do list, here’s something you need to know before setting sail.

Starting this Thursday, 1st May 2025, a brand-new online booking system will come into effect, limiting the number of visitors at any one time – and for good reason. This move is part of a wider effort to protect the Blue Lagoon’s fragile natural environment while still allowing thousands to enjoy one of the Maltese Islands’ most stunning swimming spots.

The initiative, led by the Malta Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Tourism Ministry and various national entities, aims to strike a balance between sustainability and visitor experience at this much-loved Natura 2000 site.

Whether you're arriving by private boat or commercial vessel, you’ll now need to book your visit online – for free – at bluelagooncomino.mt. Once booked, you'll receive a unique QR code to present upon arrival. In return, you’ll be issued a wristband that gives you access to the lagoon during your selected time slot.

You can choose one of three daily time slots:

  • 08:00 – 13:00
  • 13:30 – 17:30
  • 18:00 – 22:00

Entry without a booking is not allowed, and unauthorised access could land you a fine. But don’t worry if it’s your first time: officials will be stationed on-site to help you get the hang of it during the early weeks.

Last summer, the Blue Lagoon saw up to 12,000 visitors at once during peak hours, putting major pressure on its turquoise waters and surrounding ecosystem. The new system limits numbers to 4,000 at any given time, offering a more relaxing visit and a healthier marine environment.

By summer 2025, further planned improvements include expanded and safer swimming areas, improved waste management, additional sanitation facilities and stronger enforcement and on-site monitoring.

Looking further ahead, consultations are underway to introduce even more long-term conservation and restoration efforts, all planned for completion by summer 2026.

So if you want to dive into the Blue Lagoon’s crystal-clear waters this summer, do it the smart (and sustainable) way.

Are you planning a visit this summer?
