Health Minister and Deputy PM, Chris Fearne has announced that a capping for events will be enforced (once a legal notice is published). No more than 100 people can be accepted in an indoor space and 300 for outdoor events. Organisers have to also keep in mind the one person per four metre squared rule when calculating their capping.

The minister also shared that enforcement and spot checks will ensure that these new measures will be followed. He also said that each establishment needs to have a sign outside indicating the maximum number of people allowed in the venue. It was also announced that dancefloors are to be closed with immediate effect as it is impossible to abide by social distancing measures in such cases.

In the past 24 hours, new measures were announced including a €50 fine if someone is found not wearing a mask in certain shops and on public transport. Fearne also announced that new visiting hours at Mater Dei will be in place soon (one hour of visiting and one person per patient), as well as reducing visiting hours at elderly homes. It was also announced that two new testing hubs will be open next week.

Today, Malta registered 49 new cases and 5 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases to 311.
