Having recently moved back to Malta from Dubai, model David Camenzuli talks through the many things that have drawn him back to his island home.
What brought you back to Malta?
I moved to Dubai nine years ago to work as a fashion model and in the aviation industry. We have now moved back for lots of reasons but, primarily, because my wife Leah and I agree it’s a wonderful place to raise a family. My brother and I also have a business here, which we run as partners, so it’s exciting to be doing that full time. It’s great to be back!
What did you miss most about Malta while you were away?
Definitely my family and friends, and our islands’ beautiful weather.
What is your favourite…
Local restaurant: any local restaurant in Marsaxlokk.
Local dish: slow roasted rabbit.
Beach: Ghajn Tuffieha.
Place for walk: Mdina at night.
Family tradition: Sunday lunch.
Nightlife spot: Valletta.
Maltese word: Insomma (which means ‘maybe’ or 'so so').
Landmark: Blue Grotto.
View: The Valletta skyline at night.
Local smell: Local bread baking.
Describe your ideal day spent in Malta:
It would start with a morning coffee in Valletta, followed by an early lunch with family and friends somewhere outdoors and by the water. It would end with a relaxed evening with my wife, such as dinner and a movie.
Is there anything you would change about Malta or the Maltese?
The amount of traffic. I would also like us to have better environmental awareness.
What do you like on your hobza?
Tomato paste, raw onions, drained tuna, olives or capers, and parsley.
How stressed do you get when driving in Malta, from 1 (it’s like being in a spa) to 10 (I’m literally about to kill everyone)?
I refused to get stressed when driving so I’ll have to put a 1. My wife on the other hand would definitely be a 10!
