Could this winter on the Maltese Islands be warmer than average?
Good news in the long run... but what about the short term?

Caroline Curmi

Autumn and spring are always problematic periods for those who like pre-planning their week. With the sun shining one day and a storm raging the next, our emotional barometers often end up confuddled as a result.

However, it is safe to say that a degree of stability is to be expected this coming season. In fact, most weather models are predicting a warmer-than-average winter across Malta and Gozo. The Malta Weather Facebook page even reports that “winter will probably also be DRIER than average!”

While that is exceptionally good news for us summer lovers, it doesn't look like it comes into effect this week. While we will have a dry spell which will last till Thursday, the weekend is not looking quite as sunny. Rain is incoming and is sure to disrupt plans, with a stormy bout expected to hit the islands between Saturday and Sunday - eeeek!

Despite a sad ending, this week’s forecast looks pretty good, temperature-wise at least! In fact, you can probably withhold sending your winter coats to the dry cleaners for another fortnight, possibly more. Set to average around 25°C during the day and lows of around 19°C, it’s the perfect range to cater for those who like hitting that delicate balance between wintery warmth and cool comfort.
