As an important weekend on the Maltese calendar year approaches (Carnival weekend), a lot of people are wondering whether Mother Nature will let the gates of pouring rain open, killing the buzz and ruining magnificent floats.
It’s good news all around, people! According to Maltese Islands Weather, the dry weather we’ve been experiencing this month will continue well into the weekend and beyond, meaning Carnival-goers will have a splendid weekend.
“It’s confirmed! The long stretch of dry weather is expected to last over Carnival and beyond. This comes as latest maps continue to show an area of high pressure covering the central Mediterranean over the weekend. This will ensure a mix of clouds and sun on all five days,” the weather site reports.
Temperatures will be stable, too with 16-17°C highs and 10-11°C lows. “Wind will be light and variable on Friday 21/02 and Saturday 22/02. It will then be light to moderate from a predominantly West direction on all remaining days.”
Carnival lovers will certainly be happy about this! However, Maltese Islands Weather released some rain stats, and we gotta say, it ain’t looking good. “July 2019 (1.3mm) was wetter than February 2020 (0.5mm),” and “February 2020 will become the driest February ever.” Yikes…
The weather site also noted that, “It will soon be three months since the last nationwide rain,” and “It’s been over a month since the last decent shower (>1mm).” This has affected farmers who tend the land, who hope rain will come very soon.
Enjoy your Carnival weekend!
