Chris Fearne announces suspension of MUMN industrial action, while MAM directives continue
Health Minister Chris Fearne shared the news in a social media post.
The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) has suspended their industrial action according to Health Minister and Deputy PM Chris Fearne.
“I welcome with open arms the MUMN’s decision to suspend the industrial action as from today in the spirit of maturity and collaboration,” Fearne said in a tweet which he then shared on Facebook. “In this difficult time, let’s continue to pull the same rope.”
On the other hand, the Medical Association of Malta (MAM) are reportedly considering holding mass events as absurd, saying that their industrial action directives are to continue for a second day. It has been reported that yesterday’s eight-hour meeting of the MCESD failed to reach an agreement between the government and the MAM on this matter.
Various proposals were reportedly put forward during last night’s meeting which weren’t adequate enough for MAM in light of the current situation Malta finds itself in. According to reports, MAM was adamant on banning mass events until daily COVID numbers did not exceed three cases. MAM said it holds its original position, as the health and safety of its members and that of the public is more important than potential short-term profits from such mass events, which are a small part of the local economy.
