Situated closed to the Mosta Industrial Estate and cutting through the pictureque valley of Wied il-Ghasel, the Mosta bridge is the highest crossing in the Maltese islands.
Work on the Mosta bridge kicked off almost two centuries ago in 1844 took 27 years of hard work to finish. The project officially wrapped up in 1871.
Apart from connecting the different ends of the valley together, the Mosta bridge is a popular spot for abseiling and bungee jumping. The valley below it is also a very popular spot for trekking, with plenty of endemic flora growing there as well as three old chapels within its parameters.
Originally built by the British Army to facilitate access to the nearby fort, the metal structure suffered structural damage over the years and was replaced in the early '80s. With more modern equipment available, its resconstruction must have been much easier than the bridge's first version!
