Cheap and cheerful? Holidays in Malta cost less than seaside resorts in Greece, Italy and Spain
The UK’s Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer 2018 registered a drop in holiday expenses for those travelling to the island.

A glass of wine, savoured slowly as the sun goes down behind the honeycomb fortifications of Valletta, will set you back less than if you had to have one in Majorca and Ibiza in Spain, Sorrento in Italy and even the seaside resort of Halkidiki in Greece, according to research conducted by the UK’s Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer 2018.

Tourists coming to Malta also paid less for a three-course meal, based on dinner for four, and ice-cream than those visiting popular summer destinations such as Limassol in Cyprus, Porec in Croatia and – perhaps, not surprisingly – Nice in France.  The research also included an overview of prices for holiday necessities, such as sunscreen, mineral water and insect repellent, allowing for a more comprehensive view of the costs of a holiday at specific destinations.

Overall, Malta placed 10th cheapest in the ranking of 18 seaside resorts, a drop from last year’s performance, when the islands were classified as 14th cheapest on the list. So, with some pocket change to spare: is it time for another glass of whatever you're drinking?
