Calling all Southerners: Did you buy your groceries from Ninu’s stores in the '50s?
The mid-20th century might only be less than a 100 years away, but life back then was certainly very different. It’s the intrigue of many to find out how ancestors used to carry out their daily business, and now, one woman is asking for your help to trace back her grandparents’ history.

In a Facebook post, Romina Dyer expresses her wish to compile a biography to celebrate her ancestors. “We are gathering information and stories about our late grand father and mother Ninu [b. 18th April 1926] and Marija Piscopo [née Cassar, b. 12th August 1925] founders of Ninu's store in Paola over 70 years ago (now a family business under the name of Antonio Piscopo wines and spirits)”, she wrote. “Our aim is to write a biography. If you remember a particular episode or know of someone who was a neighbour/customer/supplier please get in touch. Thank you.”

A flurry of replies ensued in fond remembrance of the caring couple. Many referenced Ninu’s gentlemanly attitude and several were those who posted nostalgic memories of childhood visits to the store back when tomato paste used to be dished out in brown paper and pasta weighed out.
