Bygone days! Vintage photo reveals what Marsalforn once charmingly looked like
A sweet does of nostalgia!

A photo uploaded to the Facebook group ‘Old Photos of Malta’ by a certain Lars Newton shows the seaside fishing Gozitan village of Marsalforn back in the olden days.

People can be seen gathering around the village’s waterfront as they take a stroll or just relax by the seaside.

It may be that people were waiting for some kind of activity to start. Some in the comments section speculated it may be a boat blessing ceremony. Such ceremonies are held to protect the boats from any harm while they’re out as sea. They were also carried out so that the fishermen could catch as many fish as possible!

Others commented it may even be some sort of sports day involving the racing of boats.

Today, this exact area is now home to many seaside restaurants specialising and serving fresh fish.

Some of the boat houses in the picture are still in use to this very day.

The area is now also known for having a water polo pitch were the Gozitan team frequently trains.

This part of Marsalforn is also a popular swimming spot amongst many locals during the hot summer months.

Do you remember Marsalforn looking like this?
