Finally! October is here and we can already feel the cool breeze replacing that warm summer heat. While it’s still a little warm, October in Malta brings about a crisp air that makes you want to start enjoying all the things you love to do in the cooler seasons. Here are just some of them you can do on our islands!
1. Homely meals
Bring on all the timpana and kusksu from our nanna’s kitchens. Our traditional and homely meals start making their way to our weekly menus and honestly, we ain’t complaining! #ByeByeSummerBod2020
2. Ghadam tal-mejtin
YAS! This local treat gives us mad munchies and we’re already seeing them pop up in convenience stores and cafes, so the time has come to devour! The ghadma tal-mejtin (dead person’s bone translated literally) is a locally sweet made with pure almonds and coated with icing or chocolate. #Divine.
3. Cosy nights in
We’re so excited for this one! Bring on those cosy nights, cuddled up on the sofa, with a hot cuppa cocoa, a fluffy blanket and a great movie on. Whether you’re snuggling with your significant other, fam or pets, this is a go-to thing to do this Autumn, especially when it gets too chilly outside.
4. Family gatherings
After a summer of practically not seeing most of our extending family (we were too busy soaking up that sun and travelling the world), family gatherings are back on. Those weekly Sunday lunches at your nanna are a set appointment and you wouldn’t miss it for the world – cos duh, nanna food!
5. Hikes
As the weather gets cooler, weekend hikes are back on the calendar. Explore different areas in Malta’s countryside with your best mates or family and hey, why not add a picnic into the mix. The weather shouldn’t be so wet this month, but always keep an eye out for possible showers.
6. Inner #whitegirl
Come autumn and cooler weather, we crave hot drinks. And now with Starbucks finally on the island, we can unleash our inner white girl and look forward to all those pumpkin spiced lattes with a dash of cream and four pumps of caramel. #yashoney
7. Games night!
Every Maltese family loves a good games night, and there’s no doubt competition is going to be brought out. Be it Monopoly, a simple game of Uno, Cheat, Go Fish, or Shithead (a personal fave), games nights are on the agenda at least once a month. #GameFaceOn
What will you be doing this autumn?
