Remember the old Malta-Gozo helicopter service back in the day? The Maltese government will likely be bringing it back real soon, as works have begun for the helipad to re-start helicopter services.

Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi visited the helipad site in Xewkija, Gozo and said that the service will likely operate directly to Malta International Airport. Hear that? Quick air route to dash to the airport!

A feasibility study is being carried out to enhance the connectivity between the two islands, according to both the Tourism Minister and Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana. Minister Mizzi also revealed that Malta Medair is in talks with various companies including Airbus to discuss the best type of helicopter for the route.

The helicopter service ran for 10 years but was forced to discontinue as losses increased in 2005, and, as a result, the site has been unused for years.

What do you think about the proposed helicopter service? Yay or nay?
