Autumn, where are you? Temperatures across Malta and Gozo to reach a high of 29°C
Is-Sajf ta San Martin is upon us.
Despite being more than halfway through October, the warm weather continues to persist.
On Monday 24th October, temperatures across the Maltese islands are expected to skyrocket and reach 29°C with a real feel of 31°C.
“Starting from the afternoon on Wednesday 19th October, an anticyclone is likely to take hold of the central Mediterranean”, the popular Facebook page, ‘Maltese Islands Weather’ reported.
This will continue throughout the rest of October which likely means that no colder or rainy weather is expected to hit the islands any time soon.
In fact, this will most probably result in drier than average month for October.
The anticyclone causing such warm temperatures can develop to an omega blocking pattern.
“A blocking pattern, or anticyclone, blocks incoming low pressure systems. In our case, low pressure systems which normally approach us from the west will be deviated further north towards the UK and Scandinavia”, the ‘Maltese Island Weather’ page explained.
“These blocks remain in place for several days or even weeks, causing the areas affected by them to have the same kind of weather for an extended period of time”, they added.
“In our case, we will continue experiencing these very stable conditions for a longer period of time than was initially anticipated”
This will result in what in Malta is commonly referred to as is-Sajf ta’ San Martin.
