Are you ready for Earth Garden? What to expect & how to prepare for Malta’s hippie festival
Hippies unite for a chilled weekend

Kristina Cassar Dowling

Earth Garden is a yearly festival which incorporates live music, healthy living, awesome food and a totally chilled vibe where peace and love is all you need. If you’ve never visited this fun and tranquil space, you’d best check this prep list and get yourself Earth Garden ready!

Campers’ prep

  1. Tickets: make sure you’ve got these handy; save them as a PDF on your phone so you don't lose anything. And, you’ll even save a tree.
  2. Tent: man up kid, you’re going to have to pitch your own tent, pack a hammer for the pegs and a wet cloth to wipe the sides down; it could be a dust fest.
  3. Sleeping gear: if you’re all about roughing it but still need some luxury, pack an air mattress and a pump - you can leave your sleeping bag at home; it’s not that cold in May and June.
  4. Hammock: any camping situation is incomplete if a hammock is not present; plait your rope before tying it to your chosen trees since this will protect their bark.
  5. Beer, snacks and other green-festival necessities: enough said.
  6. Clothes: full shower amenities give you the possibility to shower on site and never leave camp; but if you live close by, you might want to head home since it’s always nice not to wear flip flops when you bathe.

Now once you’ve bought your tickets, prepped your bags and stocked up on your stash, you’ll need to get up-to-date with the programme. Here’s what to expect for the festival we’ve all been waiting for...

The jam zone

The Jamming Area at Earth Garden is a fun and vibrant place where anyone can bang on the drums, hit the bass up and strum a few chords on the acoustic. Belt out a few harmonies and smash them bongos if you’ve looking to vent, express yourself or channel your inner Marley.

Kids to-dos

This is the most kid friendly festival ever, full of fun activities to keep the little ones entertained, including face painting, bouncy castles, environmental activities and overall good vibes. Never a dull moment for the kiddos here.

Finding that zen

There’s so much more to yoga than a few downward dog poses and other odd moves. Yoga is all about finding your inner peace and channelling the energy from your surroundings and the Earth Garden set up is just perfect for this!

The tunes

Music, music, music. Ahhh, this is what it’s all about - the live bands that hit the Roots Stage are some of the most enchanting. Their energy, the vibe, the crowd. Just check this out would ya?

It’s eco-conscious

In an age where our seas are calling for help, our land is being covered in concrete and the skies are polluted to an atrocious degree, so a spot of eco-culture is needed on this island. There are so many recycling solutions with food vendors pushing plastic-free through their kitchens too.

Feed me something good

The food at Earth Garden is tailored to the various visitors in the crowds. Now, it’s not only vegan, organic or gluten free, there’s also the meatier things up for grabs. But, while you’re there, why not go for the veggie option? Maybe work your way up from a juice?

Pack some spending monies

The Ethnic Market is full of interesting, colourful, original and handmade stuff that’s bound to catch your eye. There’s quite a bit going on here, so there’s sure to be something you could do with owning.
