Architect Edward Said is calling for authorities to intervene on a historic Mosta niche after it's dilapidated state was revealed.

Sharing pictures of The Lady Assumption shrine, Edward revealed the statue dates back a couple of centuries: "The cartouche names Bishop Labini dating the piece to over 200 years ago."

In his post, Edward also highlighted the cultural and historical value of the structure: "The room on which the niche stands is equally of historic importance as it bears a concentration of shrapnel marks most likely dating to the last war."

The statue within the shrine, found on Buqana Road in Mosta, is a copy of the original after the latter was stolen along with a stone beneath it.

An application for its conservation had been filed in 2014 and although approved, it later become known that the shrine was privately owned and the project unravelled.
