An impressive transformation! Valletta’s Ta’ Giezu church facade restored to former glory
The extensive restoration undergone on the facade of the Ta’ Giezu church in Valletta is now completed and inaugurated.
Everything was finished and inaugurated just in time for the Holy Week festivities that are expected to happen this week.
This includes the beloved tradition of the Valletta Good Friday procession that emerges from the Ta’ Giezu church every year and is attended by many tourists and locals alike.
Such a restoration will undoubtably continue increasing the appreciation of many for this impressive church.
Before the restoration, the facade had been covered with a black like layer and the Maltese stone was crumbling and decaying. Thankfully, as a result of the restoration that started back in 2022, such issues have been fixed without causing any harm to the original stone.
The facade is not the only restoration that the Ta’ Giezu church has undergone recently. Just last week, a set of 14 and newly restored Via Sagra paintings were also revealed.
The church originally started being built in 1570 on the works of Girolamo Cassar and has been a staple landmark in Malta’s capital city ever since.
