Travellers heading to Italy were in for a rough start this morning when it was announced that several Air Malta flights scheduled for Tuesday 25th February would be cancelled due to a 24-hour air traffic control strike on that day.

The afflicted flights were KM640/1 and KM642/3 from Malta to Catania, KM624/5 from Malta to Milan Linate, and KM612/3 from Malta to Rome, with Air Malta asking flyers booked on these flights to contact their Call Centre immediately to rebook their trip. However, all flights are now back to their original schedule as the Air Traffic Control Strike action has been withdrawn.

Had the strike gone into effect, it would have jeopardized all flights heading in and out of Italy throughout Tuesday, with Alitalia being the worst afflicted airline with a total of 350 flights scheduled for late Monday evening, Tuesday and early Wednesday morning cancelled.

Air Malta urged passengers who had already changed their flight details due to the strike to contact them directly: "Passengers that were scheduled to travel on these flights and who made changes to their travel itinerary can contact our Call Centres on +356 25991230," the Facebook post read. The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused and highlighted that these circumstances were beyond its control.
