After 3 rough months, this abandoned horse found the love of a dedicated rescue team
Blackjack is showing signs of steady improvement.

We hate seeing animals being mistreated and abandoned, which is what happened to Blackjack, a horse that after months of ill treatment and neglect, received some TLC from local rescuers and is finally on the mend.

“Blackjack has been through so many homes we just got fed up of everyone dropping him off or leaving him behind again,” RMJ’s Horse Rescue said in a Facebook post. “We felt so bad for him and guilty that he just couldn't find his happily ever after that we decided he should just stay with us.”

“Looking back, it's a good thing he did because around three months ago Blackjack suddenly lost all muscle [function] and could barely lift himself off the floor. He would moan in pain while lying flat out or paw at the ground for hours on end.”

It was so bad, the rescuers even thought they were going to have to make the tough decision of putting him down. “At a point we honestly thought we were going to have to make the tough decision but with the help of our amazing vets we managed to make him a bit more comfortable. Ever since then he's had blood tests and been on so many different meds that it's hard to keep track. But we have known him for so long and would spend any amount of money on him to make sure he had the best chance of recovery.”

There’s good news though! “We are definitely seeing signs of improvement so his luck must be changing since he also found someone who loves him just as much as we do! We don't have to worry too much about giving Blackjack the extra attention as Claire is giving him all the TLC he needs.” Claire is the kind soul who has been taking care of Blackjack and giving him all the love and attention he deserves. Thank you, Claire!
