This year’s Carnival is all about celebrating extremes, from the largest floats ever seen to the smallest ever made. Last week, we witnessed a massive float take the stage, and this weekend, history was made with the smallest float ever created!
The miniature Carnival float, measuring just 2.3 feet in length (about 70cm), 1 foot in width, and 1.11 feet in height, is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. It features a frame, papier-mâché, and even little moving parts - a true testament to intricate artistry in a tiny package. What makes it even more impressive is that it was constructed entirely from recycled materials - creative AND sustainable!
The float's double-fronted design shows what seems to be a Scotsman riding a cow on one side and a woman on the other, all adorned with the bright fluorescent colours typically seen on local Carnival floats.
This record-breaking creation was brought to life by Josef Ciappara, with the help of his wife Chantelle and their young son Matteo, to whom the float is dedicated. Photos reveal the detailed planning process, showing the drawn design of the float before it came to life - proof of the time, effort, and precision involved in this traditional craft.
A huge congratulations to Josef and his family for this achievement!
