Rain bomb hits Malta’s south at sunrise as the island braces for a wet Friday
Parts of the south experienced flooding early this morning.

If you woke up to clear skies this morning, consider yourself lucky! While northern localities in Malta and Gozo barely saw a drop, the south and southwest of the island were drenched as a ‘rain bomb’ hit just after sunrise.

Areas like Dingli, Luqa, and Birżebbuġa saw over 30mm of rain in less than 24 hours, with some streets turning into temporary streams. Photos and videos circulating online show flooded roads and low-lying areas struggling to cope with the sudden downpour.

And it’s not over yet! Weather forecasts warn of more rain heading our way later today, with high humidity and possible thunderstorms rolling in as the day progresses.

By evening, northwesterly winds are expected to pick up, reaching Force 4 to 5, and temperatures will dip to around 16°C, making it feel properly autumnal at last.

Looks like it might be the perfect night to stay in, grab a blanket, and binge that series you’ve been putting off.

What weather did you wake up to this morning?
