What a stunner! Maltese photographer captures incredible shots of a migratory flamingo gracing the skies
Maltese nature photographer Benny Scerri has done it again! Known for his stunning captures of local wildlife, Benny recently shared a series of mesmerising photos of a Greater Flamingo (Fjamingu in Maltese), spotted yesterday, 6th November, much to the delight of nature lovers across the islands.
The Greater Flamingo is one of the most striking visitors to Malta’s shores, recognised for its elegant long neck, pink-and-white plumage, and distinctive curved bill. Though these majestic birds are among the world’s most iconic species, they’re considered scarce and irregular visitors to the Maltese Islands, typically spotted alone or in small flocks offshore.
Occasionally, a few settle for short rests at Għadira Nature Reserve or other coastal areas before continuing their migration journey. In flight, their pink necks and striking black-and-crimson wings make them a truly spectacular sight against Malta’s autumn skies.
