A step back in time! Check out this throwback photo showing road signs being made by hand
Before machines took over!

Lyndsey Grima

Long before automation and digital tools, road signs were the product of careful craftsmanship by public service employees. Each sign was created manually, requiring skill, patience, and precision.

Workers would measure, cut, paint, and finish every piece by hand, ensuring that the lettering and symbols were clear and durable enough to guide drivers safely.

This process was time-consuming, but every sign carried the mark of human effort; an attention to detail that modern machinery often replicates but rarely matches in character.

As technology advanced, automation and mass production transformed the way road signs were made, speeding up the process and standardising results.

Yet, looking back reminds us of a time when infrastructure was shaped quite literally by hand, one sign at a time!
