The dress that Maltese singer Mary Spiteri wore when she finished third at the 1992 Eurovision Song Contest with Little Child will be put on display at a local museum.

Mary Spiteri had donated her iconic dress to the Malta Community Chest Fund to auction off for charity, and it was acquired by Heritage Malta at an event yesterday.

Heritage Malta intends to showcase the dress to the public at the National Textiles Collection and the National Ethnography Museum at the Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu once the necessary conservation interventions have been carried out.

Designed in Milan, the dress features a magenta and fuchsia-toned bodice, with a sweetheart neckline and gathered pleats around the bust. The singer herself had contributed to the design.

MCCF said the dress forms part of Malta’s tangle Eurovision history and described it as a symbol of national pride.

This marked the first time Malta finished in the top three in the Eurovision – a feat it has achieved three more times since, most recently in 2005.
