A fascinating glimpse into Malta's past has been shared by The National Archives of Malta, which recently posted a historic photograph capturing the celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi in Sliema on 15 June 1933.

The black-and-white image, taken 93 years ago, shows a very different setting for one of the Catholic Church's most important feasts. According to the archives, Corpus Christi celebrations at the time were held along the Sliema waterfront, offering a unique snapshot of local traditions and community life during the early 20th century.

The photograph highlights how religious festivities have evolved over the decades while preserving their spiritual significance. Today, Corpus Christi processions are typically associated with parish streets and churches, making the waterfront setting featured in the 1933 image particularly noteworthy.

The image stands as a reminder to Malta's enduring faith and the importance of preserving memories from the country's past for future generations.

What a throwback!
