A record-breaker! Yesterday was the hottest June day on the Maltese Islands in 12 years!
The Met Office has reported that yesterday, Sunday 9th June, broke a 12-year spell, making it the hottest June day since 2007. And boy, did we feel it!
Sunday’s temperature was the highest one recorded in the last 24 months, reaching 37°C, meaning yesterday was hotter than any day of last summer. *Cue your grandparents’ hand-held imrewha and palju*
Sunday’s temperatures were previously expected to reach 34°C, but rose to 37°C instead, and believe me, those 3°C made all the damn difference. The typical average June temperature is about 29°C, meaning it was a good eight degrees above the usual.
The Met Office has stated that temperatures are expected to remain the same in the coming days. Local weather site Malta Weather has also reported that the heat spell will continue this week, with temperatures reaching highs of 37°C, cooling off a little down to 32°C mid-week, but soaring again to 35°C over the weekend.
The sun is really beating down on us and summer hasn’t even technically started yet! Yep, we’ll definitely be cranking up that A/C this week!
