The Spring Equinox at Mnajdra temples is truly a sight to behold.
On Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th March, Heritage Malta will be welcoming visitors to experience the sun rising as Malta welcomes the start of spring at the UNESCO site that is the Mnajdra temples.
The first rays of the rising sun illuminate the central passage in the South building of the site, as they have done so for over 5000 years.
This millenia-old phenomenon takes place thanks to the astounding engineering feat of its builders, who skillfully aligned it with the rising sun at the start of the seasons which, for an agrarian community, were probably important milestones in the annual calendar.
Apart from getting the chance to witness the mesmerising sun rise, you can also enjoy the idyllic views of the islet of Filfla. Attendees will then have the opportunity of a guided tour of the Central and East buildings.
Tickets are priced at €30 per person, with a special rate of €20 for Heritage Malta members. You can buy them from all Heritage Malta sites and museums, or online through here.
The adventure kicks off quite early at 5:30 in the morning but it will definitely be worth the lack of sleep!
Those attending are to meet outside the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park Visitor Centre.
