Malta is set to host the world premiere of Naples: Voice, Music & Soul, a new production by Balletto di Milano celebrating the music, emotion and cultural heritage of Naples through an evocative combination of dance and live performance.

Following the success of Carmen, the Italian ballet company will return to the island on Sunday, 15 November 2026, with the new production making its first-ever appearance at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta at 7.30pm.

At the heart of the performance is the musical spirit of Naples, with some of the city’s most beloved songs providing the soundtrack to an evening of classical ballet, live vocals and orchestral music. The programme includes iconic Neapolitan works such as ’O Surdato ’nnammurato, Santa Lucia, Funiculì Funiculà, Core ’ngrato and Torna a Surriento.

Bringing these familiar melodies to life will be a soprano and tenor from the Teatro alla Scala tradition, alongside two principal dancer couples from Balletto di Milano. They will be accompanied by a live 12-piece Italian orchestra conducted by Maestro Gianmario Cavallaro.

Rather than simply accompanying the dance, the voices and orchestra form an integral part of the storytelling, with choreography giving physical expression to the passion, poetry and longing embedded in the Neapolitan repertoire.

“This production was created to preserve and honour an extraordinary artistic heritage,” a Balletto di Milano spokesperson said. “Through the continuous dialogue between voice, orchestra, and movement, we aim to offer audiences an unforgettable cultural experience that transcends geographical and linguistic boundaries.”

With Malta chosen as the starting point for the production, local audiences will be the first in the world to experience Naples: Voice, Music & Soul before it travels elsewhere.
