The transformation of Wied Ghajn Rihana in Burmarrad has been completed through extensive regeneration efforts by Project Green. This initiative aimed to address flooding issues, improve accessibility for farmers and visitors, and restore the valley’s natural ecosystem.

The project included significant achievements. Key tasks included the removal of approximately three tonnes of waste and the reconstruction of 1.2km of rubble walls. These improvements are designed to prevent soil erosion and enhance safe access. Wooden grids and barriers were also installed to support these efforts.

Another focus was on enhancing the valley’s rainwater collection capacity. This was achieved by planting 1,400 trees and shrubs and removing invasive plant species. These measures will not only help mitigate flooding but also promote biodiversity in the area.

The waste removed from the valley included oil storage tanks, steel, concrete blocks, bathroom sets, and other bulky items that had been illegally dumped.

Project Green is committed to enhancing the sustainability of the Maltese Islands and community well-being. The project serves as a model for balancing environmental conservation, agriculture, and recreation.
