A cherished Christmas tradition returns to Valletta as Baby Jesus passes through the city
This decades-long tradition was established by San Ġorġ Preca.
As Christmas draws closer, one of Valletta’s most meaningful festive traditions will be unfolding in its streets. Established by St George Preca, this procession has long stood as a living expression of faith and a powerful symbol of the true spirit of Christmas.
Tonight, the streets of Malta’s capital will welcome the procession of Baby Jesus, offering a moment of calm, reflection and devotion amid the festive bustle.
The procession will begin at 5.30pm, making its way through Valletta before reaching St John’s Co-Cathedral at around 6.30pm. There, Baby Jesus will be brought inside for a short ceremony, including the Novena led by H.E. Bishop George Frendo, alongside readings and the singing of traditional Christmas carols.
Following the ceremony, the procession will continue through the city streets, accompanied by familiar hymns that have echoed through Valletta for generations.
For those seeking a peaceful and reflective way to experience the festive season, this tradition offers a chance to pause and reconnect with the deeper meaning of Christmas.
