Holy week, the Catholic Church’s most important week is soon upon us and one of Malta and Gozo’s most beautiful churches is underway with preparation.

damasc red

In just 48 hours, Rabat’s Ta’ Giezu church completely transformed the church from its red damasc for the St Joseph feast celebration into the appropriate Holy Week black damasc.

This change in damasc happens every year but this time round the Holy Week came earlier than usual and has fallen very close to the feast of St Joseph. The St Joseph feast was celebrated just last Tuesday, yet in the little time they had, they completely and impressively transformed the church.

damasc black

This incredible church is also one of only a few churches in Malta and Gozo that changes its damasc to black for the Holy Week.
