7 family-friendly things to do in Malta in winter
Rain or shine? These kid-friendly activities make winter in Malta just as fun.

Wondering what to do with the children in winter in Malta to keep them entertained and happy? Try these activities.

1. Frolic on the beach

Who said that the beach is just for the summer? Dress them up really well, hat and scarf well tucked in place (if required, as winter days can be quite warm), and go to the beach when the sun is shining. This open space with its fresh salty air is a healthy choice that allows the children to use their own creativity and imagination to entertain themselves instead of being entertained. They can run and fall without danger of hurting themselves, build sand castles, play ball games and enjoy several other activities. You can also head to the countryside, of course.

2. Explore historic attractions

Depending how old the kids are, they may be genuinely interested in some of the museums and historic attractions in Malta. Just imagine a little boy’s curiosity about the contents of the Malta Maritime Museum or Malta Aviation Museum. Or a little girl’s fascination with the contents of a palazzo. You know your kids, you know what they like… pick a suitable museum (there are many to choose from) and take them there. Try introducing them to new things too; these can be very educational visits and ideal for a rainy day!

3. Visit the theme parks

From Popeye Village and the Playmobil Fun Park to the Malta National Aquarium or the Esplora Science Centre, the choice is quite abundant. Aren’t they museums of sorts, after all? Just with a spot of imagination that is likely to thrill the younger generation.

4. Play a game

From games halls to laser tag to escape rooms, you have ample choice here. Whether they require collaboration or competition, game playing is part of being a child and all children love games. Most adults enjoy them too! You simply can't go wrong here. If you feel like going old school, play a board game as a family; if you're visiting, you may find that your hotel has some in store that you can use.

5. Keep them active

Bowling, archery, horse riding, karting... the list is as long and varied as you want it to be. The point is to keep them physically engaged in an activity that actually gets them moving. Not only is the exercise good for them, it also tires them out, which is really great for you when you crave peace and quiet at the end of the day.

6. Visit an animal shelter

Especially if they have no pets of their own, visiting an animal sanctuary is a great way to engage your children with animals and educate them about animal care. They can see, stroke and play with the animals, otherwise many dog shelters generally welcome people willing to walk a dog.

7. Go to the cinema

A treat for your kids and also for yourself - it gives you a moment's peace while they are absorbed in the film, if nothing more. Unless your kids are really young, chances are you'll enjoy the movie too.

So that's quite a lot to choose from to give your children and yourself a great time in Malta, no matter the season!
