5 last minute ideas for New Year’s Eve in Malta
Making last minute plans for New Year's Eve in Malta? Here are some good ideas!

Melanie Drury

Still have no idea what you’re up to on this big night? If you haven’t yet made any plans for how you’ll usher in 2019, here are a few ideas.

Attend the official NYE 2019 event in Valletta

NYE 2019

A big event that is easy to join because it requires no booking. Just head to St George's Square in Valletta for the new year celebrations organised by the Valletta 2018 Foundation in collaboration with G7 events, the Valletta Local Council, the Ministry for Tourism, and the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government. With so many big entities involved in its organisation, it’s bound to be good. Welcoming the new year with music under a starry sky, the show will include several local talents, including Malta’s beloved pop princess Ira Losco, Xarulù and many others. The show will be hosted by Corazon Mizzi, Owen Bonnici and Pierre Cordina.

NYE 2019 at the Valletta Waterfront

Valletta Waterfront

More free entertainment is available at the Valletta Waterfront, where the event programme includes live bands, children’s animation and an after party with a DJ. A countdown will climax with fireworks and a confetti display at the stroke of midnight. Whether you head out there for dinner, drinks or simply to relish the atmosphere, being on the water’s edge of the magnificent Grand Harbour, with its lit-up fortifications and plenty of entertainment, is not a bad prospect for New Year’s Eve at all.

From pubs, bars and band clubs to hotel gala dinners and upmarket restaurants to nightclub events, you have ample to choose from with a simple Facebook search for ‘New Year’s Eve 2019 Malta’ events. You might have left it a little late to book some of these, but if you fancy any of them, give them a quick call and find out, or check the event Facebook page to see if anyone is selling unwanted tickets. If they have space available, they’ll be happy to have you join their celebrations!

NYE 2019 in Gozo

Gozo NYE 2019

If you want to be in Gozo to ring in the new year, the Ministry for Gozo has also prepared something big for you for free. Promising a bigger, better and more spectacular event than ever before, Gozo’s New Year’s Eve party at Independence Square in Rabat will feature bands and DJs including The Travellers, Gianni Zammit, The Crosswalk Gang, Wobis Duo and top international guest Jonas Blue.

Get away from it all

If you are actually not keen to join the crowds, booze and mayhem of New Year’s Eve, you’re not alone. Unless you’re fine with sticking to your own living room, you’ve either already sussed out where your other ‘boring’ friends will be hanging out, booked that Gozo farmhouse, or packed the car to go camping already. If you haven’t, it’s never too late!

In any case, the best celebration is doing what makes you happy with the people you love, so you don’t need our suggestions on this one – just make it happen!

Have a very happy new year 2019!
