5 favourite places in Malta & Gozo with Skarlet's singing starlet Sandrina DeGabriele
A comprehensive guide!

Nicole Parnis

You may be lucky enough to have caught Maltese band Skarlet perform at some point around the island, and if so, you will know that they can really get the crowd going! Their front-woman and singer, Sandrina, stunned Paradise Exiles at a summer gig whilst performing alongside pop-star Kurt Calleja, and her high notes gave us shivers! We caught up with the singing starlet herself to see what she gets up to in her free time when she's not performing with Skarlet. Here's what she had to share with GuideMeMalta!

1. Valletta

My absolute favourite place to hang out and socialise has to be Valletta! I just love the feeling I get when I’m walking into our capital city as there is nearly always something going on, whether it's live music in Strait Street or trying out a new restaurant or bar. In winter especially it's definitely my go-to place to relax and ‘wine’ down!

2. Marsaxlokk

When it comes to food, it’s a bit difficult for me to pinpoint one favourite restaurant, as I love eating out and trying out new places and dishes. This also varies according to the time of the year! In summer, my perfect food outing would be a restaurant by the sea at sunset, say Marsaxlokk, ordering different types of crudi and fish, coupled with light white wine of course! As a lover of Italian food, my perfect winter food date would be a cosy restaurant which serves fresh pasta - something I can never say no to!

3. Mellieħa

Summer is definitely my preferred season, so my favourite nature spots would have to be at sea or at the beach. Give me a tuna ftira and a Cisk lemon and I’m sorted for the day! I usually prefer going to secluded beaches - Selmun and Kalanka Bay are probably my favourite - where I don’t have to socialise (we all need that anti-social time sometimes!) For me, this is somewhere I can totally relax, chill and enjoy the view of the sea. This is usually something I would do with my son, my family or very close friends.

4. Xlendi

My favourite place to switch off in summer or winter, hands down, is Gozo. Getting onto that ferry instantly makes me feel like I’m going on holiday, even if it's just for the night. Xlendi is one of my favourite bays, and whenever I go I always try to go to Iċ-Ċima restaurant - the view is amazing - or Ta’ Rosina for a more intimate dinner right by the water's edge... just lovely!

5. Miss Selfridge

Well, it's still a place, right? One look at my Instagram and you can tell exactly where I shop! My go-to clothes shop is definitely Miss Selfridge! I go to the shop every week and I’m always amazed at how versatile the brand is. As a singer who performs at a number of different events, I always need a mix of casual and more elegant wear, and I never have a problem finding either there. In fact, my favourite pieces to buy from there are their jeans which have an amazing fit, and their beaded cocktail dresses which I think are so special.

Thanks Sandrina! We can't wait to see Skarlet perform next!
