When walking around Malta, you are likely to come across plaques in memory of traffic accident victims. Candles and flowers are often placed in front of the memorial by family and friends, but one token of remembrance placed by a foreign visitor has touched the local community’s heart.

One man visiting Malta recently left a heartfelt note above a plaque he’d often walk past during his strolls. Brought to public attention by environmental activist Cami Appelgren, she took to Facebook to share a snap of the handwritten note: “R.I.P. I never knew you as I am a visitor to Malta. On my many trips to Malta, I have passed your memorial plaque when out walking. This may be my last trip to your island as I am getting older. That was denied to you. Be at peace and know you are remembered as I often recall your plaque,” the note read.

The note was attached above a plaque with wood and nails commemorating the life of Raymond Xerri from Fgura, who passed away on 4th March 1980 following a tragic bike accident.

Signed by a man called Dennis, Cami admits to feeling touched by said note: “Dennis... whoever you are. What to say. Thank you is not enough. I’m speechless actually. I’m too emotional right now to write what I’m actually feeling... not sure I can put it down in words. I stopped. I read. I cried. I needed to see this. I needed a reminder what life is all about,” she wrote in her post.

Cami is now asking for help to locate Denis: “Help me find Dennis - SHARE this! Even if we won’t find him to thank him, at least we spread some love,” she concluded in her Facebook post.

Let’s work together to find Dennis!

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
