Malta’s drag racing scene has a brand-new milestone to celebrate! Over the past weekend, Luke Farrugia made history at the Euro Finals at Santa Pod Raceway in Bedfordshire, England, by becoming the first-ever Maltese rider to win the event in the Super Street Bike class.

From the very first qualifying round, Luke and his team proved they were ones to watch. Running strong from the get-go, they took the first two rounds from the number one spot before eventually qualifying in third place. From there, the chase for both the event win and the championship title was officially on.

With calm focus and determination, Luke powered through the competition round after round, before sealing the deal in the final with a brand-new personal best of 6.64 seconds at an incredible 221mph.

Although he missed out on the overall FIM Championship title by just a single point, Luke still made Maltese motorsport history. His win at Santa Pod not only marked a national first, but also secured him the #2 spot on the FIM Super Street Bike quickest riders list and the runner-up position in the championship standings.

Behind the scenes, this triumph was the result of incredible teamwork: Simon Giordmaina’s expert machine building, Jason Borg’s meticulous work to keep the bike in peak condition, and Luke’s own outstanding riding skills all came together to deliver success on Europe’s biggest stage.

The Malta Drag Racing Association has also expressed its pride, noting how years of testing, development, and growth at home have paved the way for Maltese talent to shine internationally.

Well done to Luke and the rest of the team – you’ve truly made Malta proud!
