Dusty skies ahead! Chance of ‘blood rain’ over Malta this Thursday
No signs of heavy rainfall in September yet!

After a dry and sunny long weekend, Malta is in for yet another week of warm, mainly settled weather, according to the latest six-day forecast issued by Maltese Islands Weather on social media. While most days will bring sunshine and stable conditions, Thursday, 11th September, stands out with a chance of ‘blood rain.’

Blood rain occurs when dust particles, often carried from the Sahara desert by southerly winds, mix with rain showers, leaving behind reddish streaks on cars, windows, and surfaces.

On Thursday, skies are expected to be overcast with a 45% risk of localised dusty rain, though totals will remain very low, between 0.2 and 1 mm. Winds will shift from southeast to north, moderate in strength, helping to transport the dusty air.

The rest of the week looks promising for outdoor activities. Friday will see partly cloudy skies before giving way to mainly sunny and dry conditions over the weekend and into Monday. Maximum temperatures will hover around 30–32°C, while humidity and real-feel values will push the heat closer to 34–38°C. UV levels remain high, peaking at 8 mid-week.

Responding to the frequently asked question, ‘When should we expect the first rain of September?’, Maltese Islands Weather was clear: not yet. The team confirmed that while a little dusty rain is possible on Thursday, there are still no indications of any widespread or heavy rainfall in the near future.

After successfully forecasting fine conditions for Victory Day celebrations, forecasters are also predicting good weather for the feast of Tal-Grazzja on September 14th. With the exception of Thursday’s passing dusty rain, festivities should go ahead under bright skies.

For now, the long dry spell continues...the summer heat is not done with Malta just yet.

Are you looking forward to the first signs of rain?
